Blog 53

Here at Degree 53, we’re obviously far too modest to trumpet our own achievements, so it’s always nice when someone else does it for us!

Over recent weeks, we’ve been trumpeted left, right and centre, picking up a couple of high-profile award nominations and appearances in Top 50 lists. It’s all testament to the great work we’re doing and the strides we’ve made since we started out as a six-person team working for a large bookmaker just a few short years ago.

GP Bullhound

We were delighted to be recognised by GP Bullhound, the technology and investment bank, as one of the North’s 50 fastest growing tech firms.

There are some well-known names alongside us on the list (The LAD Bible, Missguided and Skyscanner are among those that also made the cut), which really highlights the strength and scale of tech talent in the North at present. Between us, the top 50 companies saw combined revenues rise by 90% to £1.12 billion in 2015.

These 50 companies make up the shortlist that will be profiled at the 2016 Northern Tech Awards on Wednesday (March 23rd). The likes of Wired editor David Rowan, former Tesco CEO Sir Terry Leahy and Shop Direct CEO Alex Baldock are judging the awards – stay tuned to find out how we get on!

Prolific North

Our recent recognition doesn’t stop at GP Bullhound – we’ve received a couple of hat-tips from Prolific North ahead of their annual award show on April 28th.

We popped up at number 24 on the 2016 Prolific North Top 50 Digital Agencies list, and we’ve also been listed in two award categories – ‘Large Digital Agency’ and ‘App of the Year’. The latter nomination is for our work on the Vibe Tickets app, which provides an ethical and secure way for fans to buy and sell tickets to gigs, theatre shows and sporting events.

Again, we’re up against some pretty tough competition. For instance, in the second of these categories we’re competing with apps released by the likes of Topman, the BBC and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

These nominations really show how far we’ve come in a pretty short space of time. And with plenty of exciting projects in the pipeline, the future looks even brighter!
