1st of September marks the birthday of Degree 53, and this year, we turn 6 years old! Staying true to our tradition, we’d like to look back and share what we’ve achieved over the year.
Working with amazing clients worldwide
One of the best things about what we do is having the chance to work with amazing clients and partners all over the world. We have become a global company over the years, with clients located in Asia, Europe, North America and the Caribbean.
This year, besides travelling across the UK, our team visited clients in Canada, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Sweden and France to hold workshops to support their projects. We’re always excited about meeting the people we work with and it’s nice to add a new country to our list. Exhibitions like ICE always help us to catch up with our colleagues in the industry and we’ll be going there next year too! Having international clients also means that our capabilities can be applied to worldwide audiences and it’s something we can transfer across different industries too.
This year, we’ve completed quite a few projects that have been in our pipeline for a long time and we’re very proud of them - Betfred.com migration, Betfred Lotto and Betfred Live Casino. Betfred is our long-term client and we’re very glad to be able to evolve their products over time. We’re currently working on a few more projects to update their products further.
We’ve also completed our projects with never.no to leverage the technology of their platform STORY to boost viewer engagement during live broadcasts. We built on their polling capabilities to enable broadcasters to create polls for their own websites and apps.
In addition, we’ve partnered with Black Type and Island Luck to improve the UX and functionalities of their products. We’re also working on some brand new projects with different clients, and we’ll be able to share more information very soon!
Bringing in great talent
Our team has been rapidly growing in numbers ever since establishing a gaming platform division two years ago. Today, we have around 130 employees and we’ll probably reach 150 by the end of this year. We’re extremely proud of how much in-house talent we have accumulated, working on highly technical projects for the gambling industry and other sectors.
We were pleased to make two senior appointments, with Chris Benstead becoming Digital Director and Andy Furnival joining us as Technical Director. Chris oversees project delivery for our clients and provides support with new business to the commercial team. Andy takes care of the technology side of the business and works with team leaders to streamline our delivery process.
Having the best socials
It wouldn’t be us if we didn’t do our much-awaited food and social events. We love our surprise team lunches where we often invite vendors to cook in our office or just have the food delivered (sometimes in an Uber). Shout out to the lovely people at MorMor, Chilango, Tigellae, Pieminister, Shack Tasty, The Dilla Deli, Buffalo and Croma for making delicious food and feeding us so well!
One of our biggest events is the Darts Tournament at the beginning of the year. This year, we held it at the Flight Club which offers social darts and is a slightly different version of the game. We were split into different teams and tried our best to hit the bullseye - everyone got so competitive and it was a brilliant night!
Because the logistics of taking an entire company on a few days’ holiday was going to be tricky, we decided to do something different instead and take everyone to the races. Some of us had never been before, so it was also a nice introduction of the sport. We went to York Races where we had a fantastic balcony view of the entire race course, plus a massive selection of food and drinks all day. It was really nice (and a bit unusual) to see everyone dressed up for the occasion!
We’ve also done a few things to support St Ann’s Hospice in memory of our friend and colleague, Rich Bannister. Throughout the year, we do bake offs, quiz nights, drinks trolleys, various competitions and we ran Manchester 10K to raise money. We’re very proud of how much we’ve raised so far and it’s also a great chance to get involved in different activities.
Tonight, we’ll be out celebrating our birthday at 7 Sins with an 80’s themed party. We can’t wait to see what the organisers have got in store for us and what outfits we’ll be wearing! We’ll bring out our glowsticks and neon colours to celebrate our birthday in style!
We’ll be recruiting more throughout the year, so if you’d love to work in a friendly and exciting environment, and be part of creating high-end tech products, check out our Careers section.
